Sending a referral through the Refera website link is quick and hassle-free. Here’s how it works:
- Find the Referral Link – Navigate to the dental practice’s website and find the page/section where you can 'Refer a Patient.'
- Fill Out the Form – A secure, pre-filled OneSlip referral form will open. Simply enter the patient’s details and upload any necessary documents.
- Submit the Referral – With just a few clicks, your referral is instantly sent—no paper forms, no faxes, and no account creation required.
- Track & Confirm – The referral appears immediately in the specialist’s Refera dashboard, and the patient is automatically notified via text. You also have the option to download or print a copy of the referral for your records.
The reasons listed on the referral slip are dynamic and automatically adjust based on the specialty type of the practice you’re referring to. This ensures that the referral reasons remain relevant to the specialist’s scope of care.
At this time, we do not offer customization of these reasons. However, if there is additional information or a specific reason you’d like to include, you can add a comment directly on the referral slip. This allows referring doctors to provide any extra details that might be helpful for the receiving specialist.
Once a referral has been completed, confirmed, and sent to the receiving practice, the information on that referral cannot be changed. However, if you need to make updates, there are a few options available depending on how you are using Refera:
For Refera Dashboard Users:
- Leave a Note on the Referral: If you are using the Refera Dashboard, you can add a Note to the referral. The receiving practice will be notified and can view the updated information.
- Copy & Resend the Referral: You can copy the original referral, make any necessary changes to the new unsent copy, and then send it again. We recommend adding a note or making a quick phone call to the receiving practice to let them know to disregard the original referral.
- Update Attachments: While the referral details themselves cannot be changed, attachments can be added at any time by both the sending and receiving practice.
For OneSlip Users (No Account Login):
If you are using OneSlip without logging into an account, we recommend calling the receiving practice directly to notify them of any necessary changes to the referral.

To send the same referral to multiple specialists:
- As a user signed in to the Refera Dashboard, access the referral you want to copy in the Referral Inbox.
- Click the Copy referral icon located on the right toolbar towards the bottom of the screen below the trashcan icon.
- Search and select additional practice(s) from the list and confirm.
- Click Copy referral when you are finished selecting additional practices.
- Note: Referral will not be sent to additional practices at this stage. You must click into each copied referral and send the referral individually to each practice to ensure the information contained within the referral is accurate.
Follow these simple steps:
- As a user logged into the Refera Dashboard, click on the specific referral in your Referral Inbox.
- Click the Download referral or Print referral icon located on the right toolbar at the bottom of the page (beneath the trashcan and copy icons).
- Download and save the referral as a PDF directly on your computer or send it directly to your printer.
Updating your practice information in Refera is quick and easy:
- Log in to the Refera Dashboard.
- Navigate to the My Profile section by clicking on your Username in the upper right corner.
- Under the My Practice tab, update your details, including your practice name, address, and contact information.
- To upload your logo, click Choose File, select the file, click Upload logo, and save changes.

Yes, Refera supports multiple locations. Please reach out to Refera's Support Team in order to group/link your user account with multiple practice locations. Once your user account is associated with multiple practices, you'll be able to click on your user name in the upper right corner of the Refera dashboard (to view the dropdown menu) and select which practice you'd like to view (via the "Switch Practice" submenu).
Sending an Op Report is seamless with Refera:
- As a Specialist logged into the Refera Dashboard, click on Send Op Report at the top of the dashboard next to your Username.
- Search for the practice you'd like to send the report to and select it.
- Fill out the report template and/or upload an existing report file.
- Save for later or click Send Op Report to send the report. The report will be sent securely to the referring practice, ensuring HIPAA compliance.
Here’s how to get started for already existing user accounts using a one time passcode:
- Visit refera.com to navigate to Sign in or visit https://app.refera.com/#/login
- Enter your email address.
- You will be sent a one time passcode via this email (Note: This passcode will expire after 15 minutes).
- Enter the one time passcode to access the Refera Dashboard.
- Once logged in, click on your username in the upper right corner of the dashboard page and go to My Profile > Users.
- Click Add User, input their details (first/last name, email), and assign role (e.g., Admin, Doctor).
- Click Save and the new user will receive an email invitation to join.

- Notifications are sent for:
- Completed referrals requiring follow-up.
- Operative reports uploaded by the specialist.
- Messages left by either party.
- Go to www.OneSlip.com.
- Search for a specialist by location or name.
- Enter the referring doctor’s name, patient information, and reason for the referral.
- Attach supporting files like X-rays, DICOM files, or Word documents (Note: Files should not exceed 2 GB).
- Click "Send."
- Example: A GP referring a patient to an Endodontist for a root canal can attach the X-ray of the affected tooth along with a note describing the diagnosis.
- Log in to your Refera Dashboard.
- Click "Create Referral."
- Search for a specialist by phone number, name, or keyword.
- Complete the form with patient details, reason for referral, and any relevant attachments.
- Click "Preview & Send."
- Pro Tip: Use the "Notes" field to provide any additional context about the patient’s condition to the specialist.

You are able to "snooze" a referral in your inbox. You can customize the duration of the snooze, leave a note (for the receiving office to see), as well as the ability to unsnooze a referral at anytime. We recommend choosing "Forever" as a means to archive a referral and clear it out of your Needs Action inbox.
Not necessarily, but that’s OK because sending a referral through Refera can be sent to anyone, regardless if they are already on the platform. This said, Refera utilizes our own proprietary database with an extensive network covering more than 99% of dentists in the United States, so more-likely-than-not you will be able to search for your specialist (by phone number, name or keyword) and find them. If your specialist is not already in our database, you can simply add them with a few details about their practice. If you have any issues or can’t find a practice, we’re here to help– just send us a quick note at: hello@refera.com.

In most cases, our database already has your specialists’ practice information, but on the off-chance it doesn’t, you can simply add them with a few details about their practice.
